摘要：<p>PURPOSE:To ensure a high heat generating efficiency, stabilize printed density and enable high-quality printing even on a rough-surface paper, by utilizing conversion of electricity to heat through light as a heat generating mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head comprises a semiconductor laser 11 for emitting oscillating light, plastic fibers 12 connected to the laser 11, a printing part 13 having the other ends of the fibers 12 arranged in a line on the top of a semi-cylindrical projected bank part 13a, and a driving circuit 14 for inputting electrical signals for printing to the laser 11. With a pulse signal for printing applied to the semiconductor laser 11, laser light as an optical signal is radiated from the tips of the plastic fibers 12 arranged at the printing part 13 to a thermal recording ink on a recording paper to generate heat, whereby a color is developed, resulting in printing. Since the dissipation of heat from the thermal head to the surrounding is slight, a semiconductor laser having an oscillating output of several watts can be used. When the wavelength of the laser light is set to be longer, heat generating efficiency can be further enhanced.</p>
