摘要:Power Line Communications (PLC) and its application in smart energy grids, is increasingly becoming an obvious method of enabling the manifestation of smart energy grids and hence smart homes. Anticipating and therefore matching the technology demand associated with this trend will be critical to the engineering fraternity, manufacturers, installers and retailers. A method for integrating a 2.45 GHz Wi-Fi antenna into a low-voltage (LV) distribution system wiring is disclosed, called an Integrated Long-Wire Dipole Antenna (ILDA). Traditionally, high frequency PLC signals are coupled and decoupled from the power line using direct connection methods (capacitive couplers). This invention allows for wireless decoupling, i.e. PLC signals are radiated by this novel antenna, and received wirelessly. This implies that the Wi-Fi user gains flexibility of use, the task of the Wi-Fi installer is simplified and the cost of cabling to Wi-Fi routers / repeaters is reduced. Apart from cost, the effect of reducing the amount of cabling and communication devices in a home or office environment and hence the improvement to office and home aesthetics, is an added benefit.
