摘要:The invention relates to a high temperature resistor suitable for use as a ballast resistor (14, figure 1) in a thermocouple assembly of a gas turbine engine, in which the resistor (14, figure 1) is in series with a thermocouple (16 figure 1). The thermocouple may be a type K NiAl/NiCr thermocouple in which the resistor is in series with the NiCr leg (see figure 2). The resistor 30 comprises one or more conductors 32, 34, a mineral insulating material surrounding the conductor 38, and a metal sheath surrounding the conductor 36. The insulating material may be magnesium oxide or silicon dioxide. In another embodiment, which increases the resistance, four conductors (42, 44, 46, 48 figure 4) may be used and joined by welding at ends 41,43. In yet another embodiment (figure 5), a single conductor 52 is coiled within the mineral insulation material layer 38, to increase the resistance. Another aspect of the invention aimed at increasing the resistance comprises a method of forming a resistor whereby the resistance of a swaged or drawn intermediate section (figures 6A-D) is created by reducing the cross section of the resistor. The intermediate section (72 figure 6D) has a smaller cross section than the outer ends (74,76 Figure 6D). The resistor may be bent or coiled in order to fit within the available volume.
