摘要：Shaving creams, shampoos, soap, and like compositions contain as germicidal, fungicidal, or antiseptic agent 2-(3.4-dichlorobenzyl)-4-chlorophenol and/or 2-(3.4-dichlorobenzyl)-4.6-dichlorophenol. The compositions may contain anionic or non-ionic surface active agents, or both. An antiseptic liquid soap may be made by incorporating the antiseptic agent in hot ethanol or glycerol and adding with thorough mixing to a cold solution of clear potash soap. A germicidal bar soap may be made by adding 1-10% of the chlorophenol compound to a soap containing a high proportion of fatty acids from coconut oil, the mixing being effected at the same stage as the incorporation of perfume and colouring agent. The Provisional Specification refers also to the use of 4-(3.4-dichlorobenzyl)-2-chlorophenol and similar compounds containing instead of the 3.4-dichlorobenzyl substituent a 3-nitrobenzyl or 3-nitro-4-chlorobenzyl group.ALSO:The invention comprises 2-(3,4-dichlorobenzyl)-4-chloro- and 4,6-dichloro-phenol and a process for their preparation by reacting 4-chloro- or 2,4-dichloro-phenol with 3,4-dichlorobenzyl chloride in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst e.g. aluminium chloride or zinc chloride. The reaction is preferably carried out at 100-180 DEG C. These compounds may be used as germicides or fungicides. The Provisional Specification comprises also 4-(3.4-dichlorobenzyl)-2-chloro-phenol and similar compounds which contain, instead of the 3.4-dichlorobenzyl substituent, either the group 3-nitrobenzyl or the group 3-nitro-4-chlorobenzyl.ALSO:A bactericidal and fungicidal composition comprises 2 - (3,4 - dichlorobenzyl) - 4 - chlorophenol and/or 2 - (3,4 - dichlorobenzyl) - 4,6-dichlorophenol and an extending agent. The active compounds may be formulated in solid or liquid form together with surface active agents. They may be prepared in the form of pellets, tablets, granules, powders, dusts, pastes, or ointments. The cosmetic preparations include shaving creams, shampoos, astringent preparations, and facial creams. An example describes an astringent composition containing aluminium chloride, 2-(3.4-dichlorobenzyl)-4.6-dichlorophenol and water. The Provisional Specification comprises also compositions containing 4 - (3.4 - dichlorobenzyl) - 2 - chloro - phenol or similar compounds containing instead of the 3.4-dichlorobenzyl substituent a 3-nitrobenzyl or 3-nitro-4-chlorobenzyl group.
