摘要:<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a sintered compact which consists of an aluminum titanate based ceramics, excellent in porosity, and can suppress the contraction rate at the time of burning (burning shrinkage rate) to be low, and to provide a porous ceramics formed article which consists of an aluminum titanate based ceramics, is suitably applicable as a filter of a DPF or the like, and has outstanding pore characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the aluminum titanate based sintered compact includes a step of burning a formed article of a raw material mixture comprising an aluminum source powder and a titanium source powder, wherein the aluminum source powder meets the requirement represented by formula (1): (D90/D10)<SP>1/2</SP><2 (1) in a particle diameter distribution measured by a laser diffraction method. In the formula, D90 represents a particle diameter corresponding to 90% in the volume-based cumulative particle size distribution and D10 represents a particle diameter corresponding to 10% in the volume-based cumulative particle size distribution.
