摘要:A method of forming a metallic pattern on a surface of a support comprises depositing on said surface through a stencil corresponding to said pattern a layer of a first metal, e.g. Sb, Bi, Ag or Al, removing the stencil, then depositing a layer of a second metal, e.g. Cr or Pt, and treating said layers with a substance which reacts with the first metal to reduce its adhesion to the support without reacting with the second metal or reducing its adhesion to the support thereby enabling the first metal and the portions of the second metal covering it to be removed, and after removal, to leave on the surface the second metal in the form of a pattern corresponding with the stencil. The reactive substance used may be dilute HCl in the case of Sb, Bi or Ag and dilute NaOH in the case of Al. The formation of a target electrode for a television pick-up tube is described where the support is of glass, quartz or mica, the stencil is a silver mesh, the metals are applied by vapour deposition in vacuo and the second metal (Cr) is evaporated on to a surface heated to 200-300 DEG C. The manufacture of optical gratings employed in the photographic art is also referred to.
