摘要：<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that is capable of restricting reduced service life of a developing unit due to mixture of different color developer. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a retaining member configured to temporarily retain remaining developer remaining on a photosensitive member; a cleaning member collecting developer on a belt arranged opposite to a plurality of photosensitive members; a remaining developer collecting means configured to collect the remaining developer retained by the retaining member via the belt by the cleaning member; a developer cartridge 49 attachably/detachably provided at the upper part of a developing unit 48; a circulation mechanism (partition wall WH, agitator 60 and augers 70 and 80) configured to circulate developer between a development chamber 48H and a developer storage chamber 49I; a detector means detecting the amount of developer in the developer storage chamber 49I; a determination means configured to determine if the amount of developer in the developer storage chamber 49I is less than a predetermined amount or not; and a notifying means notifying to replace the developer cartridge 49 when the amount of developer becomes less than the predetermined amount. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
