摘要:760,920. Producing bias binding; seaming. BROUNCKER, C. F. Aug. 17, 1954 [May 18, 1953], No. 13915/53. Class 42 (1). The edges of nylon or other thermoplastic woven or non-woven sheet material are continuously joined by fusion (i.e. melting) produced by the application of heat to the edges of superimposed lengths of material while in motion. Bias binding is produced from woven thermoplastic fabric by cutting wide fabric into sections at an angle of 45 degrees, reversing alternate sections and seaming their selvedges together by the above method to produce a continuous length of material with the weave on the cross. The cross-seamed material is then cut into strips and edge-folded in the usual way. In the apparatus shown, two superimposed sections of fabric, with selvedges in register, are fed from a table I between a drum E and a narrow metal band A, which runs flush with the edge of the drum, so that the selvedges project slightly beyond the band and drum. A rotary cutter K spaced slightly from the drum edge trims off the selvedges and a gas burner or electric heater D fuses the projecting fabric edges together. Band A and drum E are driven at the same surface speed by a common chain N. The shafts of the band pulleys F, G are slightly out of parallelism so that the band tends to creep towards the edge of drum E, but is kept flush therewith by an edge roller B.
