摘要：PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to take up an optical fiber by application of tension thereon and to prevent the optical fiber from loosening and entangling even if the optical fiber is moved for the purpose of storage or transportation by fixing the entire surface of a cushion layer to a winding drum. SOLUTION: The drum body used for taking up the optical fiber is composed of the cylindrical winding drum 2 and two collars 1 disposed on both sides thereof and is formed of plastic, such as ABS(acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer resin), etc., for the purpose of reducing the weight. A coating layer 3 is applied on the outer periphery of the winding drum 2 and the coating layer 3 is formed of a sheath 4 and the cushion layer 5 formed on the inner side of this sheath 4. The cushion layer 5 is fixed to the winding drum 2 by an adhesive over the entire part thereof. If the cushion layer is fixed, the deformation of the cushion layer 5 by inertia is lessened and the entanglement of the taken-up fiber is prevented even in case of the occurrence of sudden stoppage while the optical fiber is taken up at a high speed.
