[Class 36] Apparatus for removing the sheaths from electric cables, for example the temporary lead sheaths used for impregnated paper insulated cable systems of the kind described in Specification 409,678, comprises means for scoring or cutting the sheath longitudinally and an annular plough for entry under the sheath and through which the cable is drawn to remove the sheath therefrom. The apparatus consists of a frame made up of two sections 2, 3 each provided with semicircular cut-out portions which register to receive a hollow bushing or die 7 provided with diametrically opposed cutters 12 projecting inwardly to a.depth sufficient to cut or score the lead sheath 10 of the cable when the latter is drawn therethrough. The plough 13 is supported by a bracket 14 in line with the die 7 and has a longitudinal bore which is substantially the same as that of the unsheathed insulated cable 9. In elevation the plough is substantially frusto-conical, with its smaller end tapering to a circular knife edge adjacent to the cutters 12, so that it enters between the temporary lead sheath 10 and the cable insulation. Continued forward movement of the cable effects removal of the lead sheath, which curls around and over adjustable guide arms 18. In the example the apparatus comprises a cutting-bush and plough for each of a pair of cables from which temporary lead sheaths are removed as the cables are drawn into a pipe or conduit.</p>
