摘要:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the problem in which sustaining electric discharging is not sustained in a succeeding subfield by the electric discharge generated while transitioning to a writing interval following a sustaining interval. SOLUTION: Prior to a writing interval, a pulse 1 is applied to make the potential of a sustain side electrode 32 higher than the potential of a scan side electrode 31 and an electric discharging 10 is conducted prior to the transition to the writing interval. Due to the discharging, negative electric charges are gathered in the vicinity of the electrode 32 having a higher potential than the potential of the electrode 31 and accumulated on a protective film. Thus, no unnecessary electric discharging is generated by the negative electric charges even though the potential of the electrode 32 is made higher than the potential of the electrode 31 during a writing interval.
