[Also in Divisions C4 and C5] A toning-composition for soot pigmented black intaglio printing inks comprises a blue triphenyl rosaniline base and/or a black aniline base, a natural or synthetic acidic hard wax, and a resin soluble in such inks. The wax, which may be present in an amount at least 0À7 parts by weight per part colour base, may be an acidic montan wax, a copolymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon, e.g. ethylene, and an unsaturated carboxylic and/or sulphonic acid of less than 6 carbon atoms, or a mixture thereof, having an acid value of at least 30, preferably 100-140. The resin, present in an amount 0À2-9 parts by weight per part colour base/wax mixture, may be a phenol-modified colophony. In Examples 1, 2 and 4 a phenolmodified colophony and acid montan wax are used in conjunction with (1) a triphenyl rosaniline, (2) an aniline black and (4) a triphenyl rosaniline plus another triphenyl methane base. The colour base solubilized by the wax is melted with the resin, and the solidified molten mass finely ground.</p>
