摘要:The standardized battery module, one or more of which all vehicles will be designed to accommodate, has a case, suitable partitioned and ventilated, supported by a stainless steel base and channels. The latter carry the battery into and out of a correspondingly dimensioned housing, integral with the vehicle, on roller tracks. When fully pushed home, the module is secured by spring-loaded latches, and is electrically connected to the vehicle propulsion system by self-engaging plug and socket sets. Lifting and handling of modules at exchange depots is by fork-lift trucks and completion time for each exchange should be comparable with that for conventional refueling. Depots will typically operate on a franchise basis under a central controlling organization with individual transactions recorded and billed using drivers' smart cards. Two successive recharging without exchange would be allowed after any sequence of at least 10 exchanges. A suitably programmed on-board electronic monitor could immobilize the vehicle for non-compliance with financial or operational regulations.
