摘要：PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image reader that stably reads an image by preventing missing of image reading and 2nd reading of the image even when a backlash of a gear is increased due to a change over aging. SOLUTION: The total number of carried originals to be stored is read (S301), the number of read lines when a stepping motor is stopped (stop of carrying original) and the number of image reading skipped lines when the stepping motor is started (start of carrying original) are selected so as to increase the number of lines on the basis of the total number of carrying originals such as K=1 when the total number of carrying original is less than 5,000 (S303), K=2 when the total number of carrying originals is 5,000 or over and 10,000 or below (S304) and K=3 when the total number of carrying originals is in excess of 10,000 (S305). Thus, even when a backlash of a gear is increased due to a change over aging, missing of reading of an image of the original and 2nd reading of the original can be prevented to attain stable image reading.
