摘要：Mass-based sensing of charging knee for active control of charger settings is provided to control AC charging actuator values dynamically on the basis of toner patch densities measured by an ETAC(Extended Toner Area Coverage) sensor or an ADC(Area Density Coverage) sensor, thereby reducing the amount of positive charge deposited on the surface of a photoconductor to extend the life of the photoconductor and minimizing possibility for the generation of related print quality defects. A method for acquiring a charging actuator value comprises the following steps of: supplying power to an AC-biased charging device at plural AC charging actuator values(S300); enabling the AC-biased charging device to receive power at each of the plural AC charging actuator values and apply a bias charge to a photoconductor; developing a toner patch on the charged photoconductor for each of the plural AC charging actuator values; measuring a density of the toner patch applied to each of the respective plural AC charging actuator values; determining an AC charging actuator value applied to the AC-biased charging device corresponding to a knee in the plot of the measured toner patch densities; and setting an AC charging actuator value for use in supplying power to the AC-biased charging device during marking operation on the basis of the AC charging actuator value corresponding to the knee in the plot of the measured toner patch densities(S324).
