摘要：PURPOSE: To provide an optimum data converter having high band width efficiency and low power consumption. CONSTITUTION: An input signal 10 is coded by using an external symbol error- correcting code 12 for generating continuous blocks. Each block is composed of N pieces of 7-bit coded symbols. Among these symbols, M pieces of coded symbols represent communication information and N-M pieces of symbols represent error correction information. An M/N is any one of 120/126, 121/127 and 122/128. The block is interleaved and complemented by a control symbol 19, containing a synchronized pattern corresponding to M/N=121/127 or M/N=122/128. The interleaved block is convolved and coded, while using an internal grating code 20 having a punctured rate 4/5 (64 QAM) or 3/4 (16 QAM). A multilevel modulation 21 is performed for an output symbol by 16 or 64 QAM. A transmission symbol is decoded by a grating decoder 32, deinterleaved 34 and decoded by an external symbol error decoder 36.
