摘要：PURPOSE: To miniaturize a printer by narrowing the lateral width of an ink jet printer. CONSTITUTION: A ink jet pen 50 corresponding to each color is mounted on the platen 38 reciprocating on the support shaft 40 of a color ink jet printer 30. The width of a pen is set to 1/2 or less the height and depth thereof. Since the distance having to move of a carriage in order to allow all of pens to scan the whole lateral width of a printing medium 36 is almost equal to 'width of medium + width×2 of carriage', by narrowing the width of each of the pens, the distance of the carriage can be shortened and the width of the printer can be narrowed. This constitution is especially suitable for a color ink jet printer using a pen cartridge at every color.
