摘要：<p>PURPOSE: To provide an occupant detecting apparatus used for an occupant restraint system, which comprises a film having a variable electrical characteristic and a contact member. CONSTITUTION: When an occupant sits in a vehicle seat 42, a contact member pushes on a film 60 and changes the state of the electrical characteristic. An electric circuit 36 is connected to the film 60 for providing a first signal when the film 60 indicates an occupant is not present, a second signal when an occupant is present, and a third signal if the film and the circuit become disconnected. An occupant restraint system 20 is enabled when either an occupant is present or an electrical fault condition occurs.</p>
