摘要:
PURPOSE:To attain an improvement in a melting efficiency, reduction of waste, etc. by conducting a process wherein fuel pellets are taken out of a clad tube and a process wherein the outer surface of the clad tube is ground until metal luster appears and then the tube is heated in an apparatus charged with hydrogen of high temperature and high pressure. CONSTITUTION:First, the outer surface of a fuel rod 7 is ground mechanically by 100 to 200 mum, for instance, until metal luster appears, so as to expose a metal surface, and then the fuel rod 7 is inserted into a processing apparatus 1. Next, the fuel rod 7 is heated at a temperature of about 400 to 500 deg.C together with a hydrogen absorbing alloy 3 in porous glass wherein hydrogen stored. After hydrogenation of the fuel rod 7 is completed, the temperature of a heating furnace is lowered to a room temperature. Then the hydrogen in an atmosphere is collected in the alloy 3. In this state, a hatch 8 is opened, the fuel rod 7 is transferred into a melting bath and pellets are melted therein. A hydrogenated clad tube is left after the pellets are melted. This clad tube is transferred again into the processing apparatus in order to reduce the volume of the tube, and it is subjected to heat treatment at a high temperature of about 1000 deg.C or above. By this heat treatment, the hydrogen leaves a hydride. The hydrogen leaving the hydride is collected in the alloy 3 by opening a valve 6.
