摘要：PURPOSE:To obtain the identification of a handwritten character with high recognition rate by extracting a feature point where a quadrant changes from the handwritten stroke of an inputted handwritten character, and recognizing the handwritten character quantizing again the feature point. CONSTITUTION:The coordinate of the locus of a character written on a tablet 1 using a pen is read out with a character coordinate reading means 2, and is normalized with a normalizing means 3, and is quantized with a quantization processing means 4. At a primary feature point extraction processing means 5, a quantized coordinate point is extracted as a primary feature point where the quadrant changes. A secondary feature extraction processing means 6, when the handwritten character is not represented fully only with the primary feature point (ten or less in a gross, for example), extracts the secondary feature point, and quantizes it again. A similarity is calculated at a similarity calculating means 8 using a result, and is registered at a stroke candidate registering means 9, and a character corresponding to the combination of fundamental strokes having the least similarity is outputted as a recognition character.
