The input gear 3 of a change speed gearbox is driven by a gear 2 on a sleeve 7 freely rotatable on the crankshaft 1 and driven by the driven disc 6 of a clutch 4, the sleeve 7 being mounted on bearing bushes 8, 9, lubricated by oil under pressure and sealed by packings 13, 14, mounted respectively in a recess in the end of the sleeve 7 and a recess in the clutch housing 5. The gear 2 has thrust washers 10, 11, associated therewith and lubricating oil is supplied through passage 19 in the crankshaft to passages 20, 21 leading to the sleeves 8, 9, and to passage 22 leading to the crank bearing. Excess lubricant from passage 22 lubricates washer 10 and lubricant escaping past sleeves 8, 9, passes through orifice 24 to lubricate washer 11. The packings 13, 14, comprise flexible collars 17 encircled by a spring 18. A collecting groove 25 in clutch disc 4 collects any oil escaping through packing 13 and leads it through passage 26 away from the clutch face, and a deflector disc 27 similarly deflects oil escaping through packing 13.
