摘要:PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which satisfies thoroughly the performance required for a magnetic recording medium while making the effective use of the advantages which an iron nitride (or iron alloy nitride) possesses by a forming a magnetic material so as to have a specific surface area, coercive force, satd. magnetization, residual magnetic flux in the in-plane direction of a magnetic layer and thickness of the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The Hc of the iron nitride or iron alloy nitride can be made substantially low (<=900Oe) even if said nitride is pulverized so as to have >=35 m<2>/g specific surface area in BET value. The magnetic material has sigmas as high as >=90emu/g and therefore the Br in the in-plane direction (longitudinal direction in the case of a magnetic tape) can be increased to >=1,300Gauss. Said material can prevent and compensate the decrease in the low range output when the thinner medium is formed as observed in the case of using Co-deposited gamma-Fe2O3 magnetic powder. Satisfactorily low light transmittivity and high output are further obtd. even if the magnetic layer is formed thinly in order to increase hiding power and to indicate the high output. Since the magnetic layer is formed to <=4.0mum thickness, the high hiding power and high output are obtainable; in addition, the reduction in the thickness of the medium is made possible.
