摘要：<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a character estimating device enabled to discriminate indistinct characters easily by estimating respective parts of speech by using an adjacent character appearance probability table in a character string constituting the parts of speech. CONSTITUTION:When ''niOgenwa'' is inputted and the part of ''O is indistinct, an unknown part estimating part 1 decides that ''niOgen'' is a noun because ''niOgen'' has a foregoing part coupling noun-like adjunct ''wa''. An adjacent character appearance probability table 5A for nouns is adopted out of adjacent character appearance probability tables 5A, 5B, 5C storing adjacent character appearance probability specific for nouns, verbs and other parts of speech respectively ''n'' having high probability to be held between ''ni'' and ''ge'' is selected and the indistinct word is decided as ''ningen'' (human) at first by an apprecation control part 3. A dictionary matching control part 4 checks whether the decided word matches with characters in the dictionary or not, and when matched, stores the decided word in a stack B.</p>
