摘要：PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency for forming NaOH by electrolysis in an electrolytic cell for salt water using ion exchange membranes, by joining a thin layer of an ion exchange membrane on a porous electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrode wherein an ion exchange membrane is joined to a porous electrode is used as a device to be used for electrolysis of halides of alkali metals such as NaCl. Sintered bodies of metallic powder of Ni, Fe, stainless steel, Ti, etc. or the finely pored net-like material of said metal, of which the surfaces are activated with platinum group metals or their oxides and which have 0.1-30mu average pore size, 30-90% porosity and 0.1-1mm. thickness are used for the porous electrode. The joined body of the porous electrode and the ion exchange membrane is formed by coating fine powder of an ion exchange resin in the form of a suspension or soln. on such netlike material, etc. to 10- 100mu thickness after sealing the pores thereof with sealants such as inorg. powder of Al, salt, etc., fatty acid ester, water soluble fatty acid salt or the like then eluting away the sealants.
