摘要：PURPOSE:To enable an early detection of a defect in a large-scaled storage tank and a lorry tank, by a method wherein an immersed electrode is moved to detect a distance between the immersed electrodes and defective part and a magnitude of a leak current. CONSTITUTION:An electrode-guiding pipe 4 is erected upright at the center of a storage tank A of an iron can 1 whereto a corrosion resistant insulating lining layer 2 is adhered, and an immersed electrode 5, which is built into a self-floating type glass case with a platinum electrode protruding from the case, is inserted into the pipe 4. The storage tank A is filled with an electrolytic chemical liquid, such as liquid hydrochloric acid. The immersed electrode 5 is connected to a chemically resistant polyethylene-covered wire 6 and is monolithically united with a pulling rope 7. If the lining layer 2 has a defective part, the leak current is detected by a detecting circuit 8 connected to the immersed electrode 5 and the iron can 1 and is indicated by a current meter 10. The position of the defective part is determined by watching the current meter 10 as the immersed electrode 5 is sunk forcibly by the pulling of the rope 7 and by detecting the position of the immersed elecdrode 5 where the pointer swings most widely.
