摘要：Water-soluble polymer salts are produced by emulsion polymerization of an alkyl ester of an a -methylene monocarboxylic acid in an aqueous system containing an alkyl or alkaryl mono-, di- or polyoxyethylene phosphate as emulsifier and hydrolysis of the resulting polymer with at least one alkali metal hydroxide, the mole ratio of hydroxide to polymer being from 0.5:1 to 1.2:1. Suitable esters are of formula <FORM:1077889/C3/1> wherein R1 is hydrogen, or R, and R is an alkyl radical of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, e.g. methyl, ethyl and propyl(meth)acrylates. The alkyl and alkaryl polyoxyethylene phosphates are of formulae <FORM:1077889/C3/2> wherein R1 is an alkyl group of 8 to 27 carbon atoms, R2 is an alkyl radical group of 5 to 27 carbon atoms, or a cycloalkyl group of 5 to 10 carbon atoms, R3 and R4 each represent hydrogen, an alkyl group of 1 to 22 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group of 5 to 10 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 60, x is 1 or 2 and each m represents hydrogen, ammonium or an alkali metal. m May also be an organo-substituted ammonium radical. The preferred emulsifiers are produced by adjusting Me pH of the acid alkyl or alkaryl polyoxyethylene phosphate to 5 to 7 with the appropriate alkali metal or ammonium hydroxide. Polymerization of the alkyl ester is effected in a medium of pH e.g. 1.5 to 8.5, the pH being adjusted with NaOH, KOM, sodium acetate or HCl. Conventional free radical catalysts, e.g. inorganic persulphates and organic peroxides are used, optionally with a mercaptan modifier. The resulting polymer emulsion is hydrolysed with an aqueous solution of e.g. LiOH, NaOH, KOH or mixtures thereof, a stabilizer such as a polyoxyethylated alcohol being included in the solution if desired. The polymer salts thus produced are used as thickeners for aqueous dispersions of natural and synthetic polymers, examples being listed. In the examples, methyl acrylate is polymerized in aqueous systems containing partial sodium salts of nonyl- or di-nonyl-phenoxypoly (ethyleneoxy) phosphates asemulsifier and sodium bisulphide and potassium persulphate as catalysts. The polyacrylates produced are hydrolyzed with a mixture of LiOH and NaOH or with NaOH or KOH alone and the resulting polyacrylate salts are used to thicken latices of butadiene-styrene-carboxylic acid polymers.
