摘要：<p>Two workpieces with a square- or rectangular-cross section are placed on a mould baseplate to form a gap. A half-mould is placed on each side of the gap, and a top mould or cope is placed between the two half-moulds. The cope has an adjustable length and contains the thermit mixt., plus a hole via which the molten metal enters the gap between the workpieces. The baseplate pref. has a recess into which the melt flows to form flash, and a similar recess is present in the three mould elements. After preheating the joint surfaces, a plug partly blocks the hole in the cope. The length of the cope is pref. adjusted by cutting or sawing. The three mould elements can be used for workpieces with various size, merely by cutting the cope to length; the length is the distance between the two half-moulds.</p>
