摘要：<p>The ship's tank vent pipe head has a annular portion (2) of the same bore as the vent pipe, welded co-axially to its top and a hinged (6) lid (1). A U-shaped stirrup (7) is mounted removably to straddle the lid and prevent it opening so far that it would not drop shut again. One or more pipes (8) of much smaller bore than the vent pipe are led through the sidewall of the head to form goosenecks. Their vertical outside ends carry buoyant-ball type non-return valves (9, 10, 11). Gas or air flow outwards, liable to be rapid and large in quantity, is through the full bore opening. Some can also be through the gooseneck pipes, which along suffice for the much smaller quantity of air flowing inwards.</p>
