摘要：<p>The drive from the vehicle engine is transmitted through friction linings to the clutch plate and then through a damping spring to plates and a hub. The damping springs must be sufficiently strong to transmit the engine torque and as a result are relatively large. By making the spring coils oval with the major axis horizontal, the dia. of the clutch can be considerably reduced without reducing the torque transmission capability of the spring. Where the axial dimensions of the clutch are restricted, the springs can be arranged with the major axis of the oval coil lying along a radius of the clutch plate.</p>
